The Best Gift I ever received

This blog site is all about saving time and money. But sometimes in order to save time and money, you have to invest some of that money to save in the long run.

Can I tell you about how a $200 gift has been my most used tool for 29 years and counting?

My Mom loved to collect things. She collected children (6 of us bad little kids), she collected friends, china, baskets and recipes. Mom always valued quality over quantity, though. She made sure she birthed the most beautiful, wonderful and awesome daughters. She went slightly overboard on the rambunctiousness of the sons she birthed. Over achiever!

Mom believed in sowing into her relationships with quality time. Time around the supper table, time around her kitchen table with coffee and time together in the kitchen baking to show her love for others.

One investment Mom made into her children’s lives was that she blessed our marriages with a Kitchen aid stand mixer. That sounds like a weird investment, right? And as a young married woman, I thought it was a pretty useless gift myself. Until I had children and we were living on a single minimum wage income.

That Kitchen aid mixer became my most used kitchen appliance and continues to be my most used appliance to date. I have used that mixer to knead bread dough, mix up sweet treats, mash potatoes, shred chicken…. The list could go on and on. This mixer has stood the test of time and even helps me in my side hustle: I bake “goodie boxes” twice a month to sell. Bertha (that’s her name) has lasted 29 years and is still going strong. We have had to replace the attachments, but the machine and bowl are still in excellent working order.

My Mom paid roughly $200.00 for my wedding present. $200 investment into cutting down time in the kitchen for the last 29 years. $200.00 investment into being able to whip up delicious home cooked meals (which cuts down on food expenses as well). $200.00 investment on a piece of equipment for my side hustle that makes that much or more in profit each month. Yes, Kitchen aid's are more expensive now that 29 years ago, but they are still worth the investment. If you are a busy mom or Nana who wants to make sure to have delicious home cooked meals and treats, using a stand mixer to assist you in the kitchen is the way to go.

Could you use any other stand mixer? Sure. Would they work as well? I have no idea, because I have not had to compare them. But I will say that I learned well from my Mom and have a kitchen aid sitting in my closet as a future wedding present for my daughter.

Take a moment to use this link to compare prices. Thank you!

This is great! I loved reading your story and yes I must agree on having a Kitchen Aid Mixer. We (or should I say I because my husband never uses it but he does eat the goodies that are made in it) got one 13 years ago at my bridal shower. Best thing ever, oh besides my wedding day that is!
